Forensic / Psychiatry Expert Witness

I have over 15 years of experience in different aspects of forensic work, having served as a faculty evaluator for the UCSD PACE program, performing psychiatric fitness-for-duty evaluations. In that capacity, I have performed evaluations on over 200 physicians, and, along with a colleague, designed and led a group for physicians accused of boundary violations for over 10 years.

I also have extensive experience as an expert in addiction psychiatry, having been board-certified in addiction psychiatry for over 5 years, serving as medical director of a treatment program for 15 years, and testifying over the last 10 years in many administrative hearings as an expert witness in addiction medicine.

As a QME and AME for over 5 years, I have experience with depositions and questions of causality and psychiatric consequences of a variety of medical injuries and accidents.

Currently, I work mainly in my outpatient private practice, which I opened more than 20 years ago, and serve as the medical director of a program working with the remediation of justice-involved individuals with substance use disorders. I also have served on the advisory board and worked as a treating clinician for Headstrong, a philanthropic program which provides services for our nation’s veterans.

I am an excellent writer and communicator, and connect well with audiences, given my extensive teaching and lecturing experience. See my YouTube videos on Marijuana Addiction or The Suboxone Controversy for examples of my presentational style.
